MACMILLAN Cancer Support are marking 100 years – by calling on the support of 100 walkers in Clydesdale.
The leading cancer charity are urging local people to take part in one of their organised walks to raise funds and improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
Macmillan Cancer Support hope at least 100 people will sign up to take part in either the Tinto Hill walk on Saturday, June 25, or the Strathclyde Park walk on Sunday, June 26.
The events are just two of a string of walks Macmillan have organised as part of their Miles for Macmillan walking programme, which has been launched in partnership with Boots UK.
The charity and Boots UK want people across the country to get active and explore their towns, cities and countryside by taking part in the challenge.
Angela McCormack, Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Lanarkshire, said: “These will be great events and I know that everyone who comes along will have a wonderful day.
“Tinto Hill and Strathclyde Park are absolutely stunning places to walk and you can’t beat the fantastic feeling you’ll get walking as part of a group who are all there to raise money for people affected by cancer.
“Anyone who is moderately fit should be able to take part.
“If you’re a regular at the gym then the beautiful scenery and fresh air will probably be a welcome change.
“If you’re perhaps not as fit as you’d like to be then pledging to take on this challenge will give you the incentive you need – as you’ll know every step you take will be helping people affected by cancer.”
All the money raised through Miles for Macmillan will help Macmillan provide medical, financial, practical and emotional support to the two million people living with cancer in the UK.
Angela added: “Going walking is one of the easiest fundraising events you can take part in and all the money raised will be used to help people with cancer and their families.
“I hope lots of local people will get involved and help us raise the money we need to fund vital cancer services.”
